LET-THE-SAW-DO-THE-WORK MANTRA
- The saw is intended for two-handed sawing of trees, branches, limbs, and logs
- Keep the chain straight and stretched while in use, avoid sawing at an angle
- Use even and long pulling strokes with a good rhythm, don’t pull too hard, as the blade will dig in
- The radius of the chain’s path is best kept as large as possible (pull with your palms apart) – this will be easier to pull and keep the chain from binding near the final part of the cut - it works best to pull up at about 450
- Don’t pull the saw to the very end of the links during the sawing, so you always have a little room to play, if it gets stuck
PATIENCE AND PRACTICE
- It’s about technique and control, not about speed and force
- Working with two people will increase efficiency and lessen effort
- To reach higher branches tie a rope through one handle, tie a weight to the end (you can use the poach and its belt loop) and throw it over the branch, tie a second rope around the other handle, then pull the rope, with the cutting teeth facing down, around the branch
- Practice to throw the line correctly
- Start pulling both ropes back and forth, pulling the saw teeth into the limb
- If you start pulling and it easily glides over the branch, then the teeth are facing in the wrong direction; you may clip a little rod or indicator in the strap, so you know are facing the right way
MAINTENANCE
- Highly recommended: lube the chain with silicone spray, chain lube, or WD-40 Multi-Use - made from high carbon steel in order to provide hardness and resistance, the saw can rust with time
- Tip: vegetable oil like Canola is a perfect short-term lubricant
- The saw may need to be lubricated while working
- Store the saw in a dry and safe place, preferably in a ziplock bag during longer periods of non-use
- The saw can easily be resharpened with a regular 3/8 round pico size (P) sharpener
- Contact with hard objects can damage the saw
